Marriage Licenses

A Marriage License in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana is obtained at the Office of the Clerk of Court, 1st Floor, of the Parish Courthouse located at 301 South Grand Street, Room 104.  Licenses are issued Monday through Friday, daily, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  The APPLICATION for the license must be completed first.  The cost for the application is $27.50 CASH.  No checks will be accepted.

The marriage license applications MUST be complete, which by law REQUIRES:

  • The full name, residence, race and age of EACH party
  • The names of the parents of EACH party
  • The number of former marriages of each party, and whether or not divorced - and when divorced
  • EACH party's social security number (or a statement by a party that he/she has no social security number)
  • The relationship of each party to each other

Louisiana Revised Statute 9:225 states that an application for a marriage license SHALL BE ACCOMPANIED by: a certified copy of each party's birth certificate, the written consent for a minor to marry, the declaration of intent for a covenant marriage.  IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY OFFICER AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE A MARRIAGE LICENSE IN THIS STATE TO ANY MALE OR FEMALE UNLESS BOTH PARTIES ARE PRESENT AND FILE A CERTIFIED COPY OF THEIR ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE.  A PHOTOGRAPHIC REPRODUCTION OF THE CERTIFIED COPY OF THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE MAY BE FILED WITH THE OFFICER.

Notes:

  • A Louisiana marriage license is ONLY valid for use in a Louisiana marriage ceremony.
  • A marriage license may be issued in ANY parish, regardless of where the ceremony is to be performed OR where the parties reside.
  • The marriage ceremony shall be performed in the presence of two (2) competent witnesses of FULL AGE.
  • There is a 72 hour waiting period before the license can be used.
  • The marriage license is only good for 30 days from the issue date.  If the license is not used, you must RE-APPLY!
